A group of locals protested outside Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters MP’s electorate office last week after the Federal Government approved to continue the use and extend the operating life of a gas processing plant in Western Australia. The newly installed Minister for the Environment and Water, Senator the Hon Murray Watt, announced on 28 May that he has approved the North West Shelf (NWS) gas processing project in Karratha, WA. The application by Woodside Energy was made to extend the life of the plant to 2070; it was approved after being under assessment by the government for a number of years.
